Games I Finished in 2025

It seems the consensus by a landslide for the 2025 game of the year is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Not for me, though; I don't care for the JRPG combat and exploration style. I don't quite know what I would nominate as the game of the year myself. Atomfall and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers were fun and I actually played them. Of the ones I didn't, AI Limit is the highest on my wishlist. It's an anime-looking soulslike but it's not by a Japanese studio, so it gets a pass.

Games I Finished in 2024

In terms of exciting new game releases, 2024 was quite the poor one. There was a whole bunch of games for me to wishlist but none of them really fit the spot of an undisputed game of the year. The Game Awards gave that title to Astro Bot, a PlayStation-exclusive third person action platformer of all things.

Games I Finished in 2023

Some say 2023 was a great year for games. For me, personally, I'd say it was above average. There was a handful of good (or at least good-seeming) games but nothing obviously superb -- and then few disappointing ones as well.

Games I Finished in 2022

Looking at the list of games I beat this year, I think there were more suspect ones than usual. But at least the current backlog is looking to be of somewhat higher quality, although it has its unknowns as well. I almost beat all the games I had a year ago on my backlog but subscription services again and the sudden Assassin's Creed series binge prevented that from actually happening. Currently my backlog is about the same size as it was at the end of 2021. Theoretically it's once again doable in a year but backlogs have a tendency to grow, as one knows.

Compared to the last two years, the amount I spent on games spiked up this year though it didn't reach the numbers of the two years before those. It was almost exactly equal to the price of two fresh AAA releases but since I only buy stuff with deep discounts, I got a lot more than two games. The purchases went mostly into growing my, once again considerable backlog because gaming subscription services kept me busy (even now).

Games I Finished in 2020

2020 seemed such a promising year for games but now looking back, there was barely anything among new releases that truly got me excited. 2020 was colored by worrying news and delays. And Cyberpunk 2077 then crowned the year by getting released too early and on the now-last-generation consoles, on which the game clearly shouldn't be.

Games I Finished in 2019

In 2019 I beat about the same number of games as in 2018 but I paid for them only about half as much. That is largely thanks to the various subscription services now available. They're great value if you want to play a game just once. Great ones I still prefer to own outside a subscription though. Being able to play games for so cheap has also made normal prices seem really expensive to me. A game's discount now needs to be even deeper before I buy it.

I considered finishing Fallout 4 before writing this post but since I still have 2 pieces of DLC to play, I instead decided to do the annual roundup close to the turn of the year for a change.

I got stuck on writing the previous post for few months and thus this one didn't happen when it was supposed to. But I got it done eventually -- the list of all the 28 games I beat last year placed in arbitrary tiers.

I tried hard to clear my game backlog in 2016. And I even succeeded at it for few months. Thanks to that, I beat a handful more titles than in 2015 -- 27 in total if I am counting them right. Sales have brought the backlog back a bit again but such is life.

Finally, with great difficulty, I managed to beat the post backlog I've struggled through the passing year. I spent a good portion of December writing all those posts. Maybe not having one again would be a good new year's resolution, eh?

The Best of YouTube 2013

For the sake of tradition, let's start this post by checking how the Yogscast (Lewis & Simon) is doing... Evidently, they dropped from their rank 14 to 32nd, even though they gained 3.6 million subscribers over the year and are now at 6.7 million total.

Top 1 Movie of 2012

I don't know what I had with movies last year, but way too often during one I was just waiting for it to end. There was one exceptional exception, although I might have given it the fourth star partly because there were so few movies I found entertaining.

The Best of YouTube 2012

Last year, I grew even more picky of what I watch on YouTube. Most of the videos in my subscriptions go unwatched these days.

Top 4 Movies of 2011

In 2011, I saw four movies that, in my opinion, deserve four stars. No all-time favorites this year either, but I guess I don't expect them pop up all but very rarely.

The Best of YouTube 2011

In 2011, I watched more YouTube videos than ever before. Gaming content in particular spent a heavily increased amount of hours in my browser's flash player. Although, towards the end of the year, I found myself watching fewer videos fully or just didn't watch them actively, doing other things at the same time. Nevertheless, here are some clips (and their producers) I found enjoyable this year.

It's the last day of the year once again, and all these lists of the best/worst things are popping up left and right. So here's mine - the top three movies I saw in year 2010. They're also the only three movies I gave four stars with my simple system; no five star movies this year.
